This wooden crate has already had a busy life and it’s not finished yet. We have started to use wooden crates more for our 5adaybox customers to cut down on cardboard and plastic waste and reuse the boxes which produce is delivered to us in. When you’ve unpacked your fruit & veg, please reuse it however you like

Everyday reuse ideas

• Firewood / kindling
  • Break up into kindling for log burners, fire pits or chimineas
  • Great natural fire-lighters when dry

• Garden storage
  • Store plant pots, compost bags, bird seed, logs
  • Tool tidy in shed or greenhouse

• Veg & pantry storage
  • Keep potatoes, onions, squash, apples
  • Rustic pantry shelf or under-stairs storage

• Boot room / hallway crate
  • Shoes, scarves, dog leads, hats, gloves

• Kids’ loft toy box / book crate
  • Lego, trains, soft toys, picture books

• Garage recycling organiser
  • Glass / cardboard / bottles

Garden and outdoor ideas

• Planter (line with compost bag + drainage holes)
  • Herbs, strawberries, salad leaves

• Log store
  • Keep kindling dry by the back door

• Bird feeding station base
  • Mount feeders into it or sit bowls inside

End-of-life (when it’s finally had enough)

• Chop up for kindling
• Break down for compost brown material
• Recycle as clean wood at your local tip
